MICROSOFT 365 AND OFFICE 365

Unboxing Microsoft’s new video management app: Stream

BY PROFESSIONAL ADVANTAGE - 18 December 2017 - 4 MINS READ

Most organisations utilise only 30% of the applications available in their Office 365 subscription without realising they already have most of the tools they need to stay productive. To help organisations like you to maximise your investment further, we have been writing blogs about available applications you can use for specific functions. We shared how Microsoft Forms can create surveys easily; why you should take a closer look at utilising PowerApps; and using SharePoint in innovative ways to boost productivity in your HR, sales and marketing teams.

So this holiday season, allow us to un-box for you yet another cool app in the Office 365 stack that you can use to manage your video contents effectively. If you have never come across it, it’s called Microsoft Stream—an enterprise video service that allows you to easily upload, watch and share videos on any device, anytime, anywhere.

If you utilise videos for learning materials, recorded webinars or video adverts, then read on and discover how your digital workplace can benefit from using Stream.

Smart search tools

Stream allows users to access contents quickly and easily with intelligent video management features. Similar to other video sites, Stream provides you with a personalised homepage based on relevant contents, the channels you follow, or trending contents.

Microsoft has made video transcription even more effortless with Stream’s speech-to-text transcription functionality. Not only does it automatically provide a transcript, but it also enables watchers to use the deep search feature to skip to the part of the video most relevant to them. It also has facial recognition, giving you a face timeline to identify the specific time the speaker appears in the video.

Enterprise-grade security

Stream is a secured application riding on Azure’s Active Directory, an established leader in identity management systems protecting your sensitive company data. This ensures that only your intended audience or authorised users will be able to gain access to your published videos.

You can choose who to share your videos with in your organisation, either through Channels or Groups. People can follow Channels and only those subscribed to the channel will get notifications on changes or updates. Groups are for selected people based on your personal preference.

Stay social with your videos

True to Microsoft’s mobile-first vision, Stream is accessible across any device in a wide range of screen sizes, whether you are using a mobile phone, PC or Mac. It can also be used in a variety of up to date browsers.

Like any video management platform, such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Wistia, you can like, share and leave comments. Keep all the videos you like in one space or watch them later by saving it to your watchlist.

Stream is also designed to integrate with other applications within Office 365 particularly SharePoint, Yammer and Teams which makes your videos accessible on any of these platforms for a more seamless experience.

Full steam ahead with Stream!

Activating Stream is as easy as switching it on in your Office 365 admin centre, allowing your users to enjoy a secure and easy to use enterprise video management app. Still need guidance on how to get started?
